Disney art is probably one of my favorite things. I just love all the paintings and prints, and how amazing they would look lining my walls at home. On my college program, I had the pleasure of working the Art of Disney store in Epcot (there are also ones in Magic Kingdom and Disney Springs). The store was small, but lined with all different canvases and collectibles. I loved every second of it, and I really miss going in there to find new artwork up each week.
With so many collectibles and artwork available, I will be solely focusing on actual artwork in this post. You will find different paintings and painters that I love. I do have an admiration for collectibles (Jim Shore figurines are my favorite!), but there are so many, I would like to do a separate post later on them. So what are we waiting for? Let’s see how great art can be: Continue reading “The Art of Disney”
“A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…”
That quote is one of the most easily recognized quotes in cinematic history. In 1977, a little known movie called Star Wars was released. The instant fan favorite would go on to spawn two trilogies, with a third one under way, spin-offs, and bring different generations to enjoy what is easily the biggest movie saga. With the newest movie, Episode 8: The Last Jedi, coming out in December, Star Wars has done the impossible.
Star Wars has been such a big thing in my life the past few years. I immediately fell in love with the original trilogy, and the new movie, The Force Awakens, once it was released. I’ll never forget being at Launch Bay in Hollywood Studios on opening day with my friends. We ended up meeting Darth Vader and every once of us were scared and laughed the entire time. I have accumulated some really cool merchandise, and here is some of the more awesome pieces I have: Continue reading “The Force is Strong With This Merchandise”
No one knew how a little movie during Disney’s Renaissance period could blow up into a worldwide phenomenon. In November 2013, Frozen was released. No one knew the extent of the movie, or the chaos that would ensue. I went into the movie theater not knowing what to expect. All the ads had a little snowman and reindeer, but I knew some of my favorite Broadway actors and actresses are in it. I came out crying, with a new appreciation of such a film that no one was counting to be.
Flash forward three years after the movie has been released. It has gone on to be the number one animated movie ever created, and Disney has made billions in merchandise. From the moment I knew I connected with Elsa, I felt that my money went to buying any Frozen merchandise I could get my hands on. Here are some of my favorite things: Continue reading “This stuff is beyond cold, it’s basically “Frozen””
Today is a big day for many Beauty and the Beast fans: the live action movie finally hits theaters! When it was announced, many people, including myself, freaked out and have had this date circled on our calendars for over a year. With a star studded cast and a new take on the original, it has been leaving fans anxious to see it.
With the movie came all new merchandise, many of which can be found in stores including the Disney Store, Hot Topic, Torrid, Macy’s, Kohl’s, and many more. With collections selling out quickly, I knew I had to jump to get my hands on some of it. Below are some new items, as well as items from the animated original that are my favorites. I will never forget the first time I saw pins. It was a beautiful April day, and I was in Hollywood Studios. We went into the tiny outdoor store under the sorcerer hat, and I just saw rows upon rows of pins. I browsed, but did not buy any. Flash forward a year and a half to the first week of my first college program in August of 2014, and I bought myself a red polka dot Minnie lanyard with a Union Jack Mickey pin and an Elsa pin. Little did I know that was the beginning of something I would come to collect and take appreciation of.
Pin trading began at the Walt Disney World resort in the summer of 2000, as part of a special event for the Olympics that year. Within a few years, it expanded, and people were hooked. Pins are now sold throughout the entire Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts, as well as online, on the Shop Disney parks app, Disney Store online, and even the resorts around the world!
